Truffles is a 10 yr. old German shepherd. During her annual preventative care exam, the doctor noticed a mass inside her ear. Masses in the ear can be very dangerous as they can close off the ear drum. After sending the biopsy of the mass to the lab, we discovered that it was cancerous and needed to be treated. Due to the difficulties of the other treatment options, the owner and Dr. O’Reilly decided the best option was to remove the ear canal in a procedure call a total ear ablation. This procedure is only done in extreme cases with chronic massive ear infections, and cancer. Due to the severity of the procedure Truffles stayed in the hospital for a few days on IV pain medications. Now she has fully recovered and is doing very well at home.
