One of Dr. O’Reily’s specialties is reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. This patient came in with a large mass on the left cheek under the eye. Unfortunately, the mass had grown so big, that when it was removed there was not enough skin to close the incision. Dr. O’Reily had to get creative. He proceeded to cut a piece of the lip that he then spun upward to cover the incision from the mass. This lip reconstruction preserved the blood supply to the skin graft. This is part 1 of a 2 part surgery. After healing, the patient will undergo a second surgery to separate the part of the lips that have been sewn closed.
